Von Fritzlar nach Rom : Die Karriere des Pönitentiarieprokurators Johannes Buren (ca. 1467–1524)
Many German clerics tried their luck in obtaining benefices from the Roman church, the largest employer of the late Middle Ages, through recourse to the assistance of the Pope in Rome. The traces left in the Vatican Secret Archive are collected in the „Repertorium Germanicum“ (RG) and in the „Repertorium Poenitentiariae Germanicum“ (RPG), as well as in the database of the German Historical Institute, where they can be consulted with ease. Together with the sources held in archives beyond the Alps, these documents sometimes form a biography, thus providing a more detailed knowledge of the provenance of specific individuals, their career in Germany and at the Curia, their network of contacts and the resources available to them. For Johannes Buren of Fritzlar (ca. 1467–1524) we have such a wealth of documentation.
Numerosi chierici tedeschi tentarono la loro fortuna nella ricerca di benefici presso la chiesa romana, il maggiore datore di lavoro nel tardo medioevo, ricorrendo all’aiuto del papa a Roma. Le tracce che hanno lasciato nell’Archivio Segreto Vaticano sono raccolte nel „Repertorium Germanicum“ (RG) e nel „Repertorium Poenitentiariae Germanicum“ (RPG), nonché nella banca dati dell’Istituto Storico Germanico, dove possono essere consultati agevolmente. Insieme con le fonti, conservate negli archivi al di là delle Alpi, questi documenti formano talvolta un biogramma, permettendo così degli approfondimenti sulla provenienza di determinate persone, sulla loro carriera in Germania e presso la curia, sulla loro rete di contatti, come pure sul loro patrimonio di cui disponevano. Per Johannes Buren di Fritzlar (ca. 1467–1524) si dispone di una tale densa documentazione.
