Die Chronik des Richard von San Germano hat fundamentale Bedeutung für die Geschichte des Stauferkaisers Friedrich II. in Italien. Erstmals analysiert nun die Monografie von Stefanie Hamm das Leben und Werk des Notars aus San Germano. Die in zwei Fassungen vorliegende Chronik entstand im Umfeld der bedeutenden Abtei Montecassino und verbindet die Geschichte des Königreichs Sizilien im 12./13. Jahrhundert mit dem Bericht über die Abtei und die Geschehnisse in der Region. Daneben gibt sie Einblick in Funktionsweisen mittelalterlichen Regierungshandelns.
The chronicle of Richard of San Germano is of fundamental importance in knowing about the history of the Swabian emperor Frederick II in Italy. Stefanie Hamm analyses the life and work of the notary from San Germano for the first time. The chronicle, which has come down to us in two versions, covers the sphere of influence of the important abbey of Monte Cassino. It provides a link between the history of the kingdom of Sicily in the 12th and 13th centuries on the one hand and news about the abbey and events in the region on the other. It also showcases the mechanisms of government in the Middle Ages.
La Chronica di Riccardo di San Germano è di fondamentale rilevanza per la storia dell'imperatore svevo Federico II in Italia. Stefanie Hamm analizza per la prima volta la vita e l'opera del notaio di San Germano. La Chronica, che ci è pervenuta in due versioni, appartiene alla sfera dell'importante abbazia di Montecassino e connette la storia del regno di Sicilia nel XII/XIII secolo con le notizie sull'abbazia e i fatti avvenuti nella regione. Inoltre apre lo sguardo sui meccanismi dell'agire governativo nel medioevo.
