Nach seiner Niederlage im Zweiten Weltkrieg verlor Deutschland die Regionen Schlesien, Pommern und Ostpreußen an Polen und die Sowjetunion. Ein Teil der in diesen Gebieten ansässigen Deutschen war bereits vor dem Vormarsch der Roten Armee an der Ostfront geflohen, ein anderer Teil wurde nach Kriegsende gezwungen, seine Heimat zu verlassen. Der Band rekonstruiert die individuellen Erlebnisse und die der Gemeinschaften, die in die westlichen Besatzungszonen umgesiedelt und ab 1949 in die Bundesrepublik Deutschland eingegliedert wurden. Mithilfe von Tagebüchern, Briefen und Memoiren, die aus der Perspektive der Geschichte der Gefühle interpretiert wurden, wird die Evolution der emotionalen Erfahrungen verdeutlicht. Ziel der bis in die erste Hälfte der 1970er Jahre reichenden Analyse ist es, ein klareres Bild von den Prozessen der Entwurzelung, der Integration und der Versöhnung mit der Vergangenheit zu zeichnen.

After its defeat in the Second World War, Germany lost the regions of Silesia, Pomerania and East Prussia to Poland and the Soviet Union. A part of the Germans living in these territories had already fled the advance of the Red Army on the Eastern Front, while others were forced to leave their homeland after the end of the war. This volume reconstructs the individual and community histories of those who were resettled in the western occupation zones and, from 1949 onwards, integrated into the Federal Republic of Germany. The perspective of emotional history, used to interpret diaries, letters and memoirs, reveals the evolution of their emotional experience. The aim of the analysis, which extends into the first half of the 1970s, is to shed new light on the processes of uprooting, integration and reconciliation with the past.

Dopo la sconfitta nella Seconda guerra mondiale, la Germania perse le regioni di Slesia, Pomerania e Prussia orientale in favore di Polonia e Unione Sovietica. Una parte dei tedeschi che viveva in quei territori era già fuggita di fronte all'avanzata dell'Armata rossa sul fronte orientale, un'altra parte fu costretta ad abbandonare la propria casa in modo forzato dopo la fine della guerra. Questo volume ricostruisce le storie individuali e comunitarie di coloro che furono ricollocati nelle zone di occupazione occidentali e, a partire dal 1949, integrati nella Repubblica Federale Tedesca. La prospettiva della storia delle emozioni, utilizzata per interpretare diari, lettere e memorie, fa emergere l'evoluzione del loro vissuto emotivo. L'analisi, che si spinge fino alla prima metà degli anni Settanta, ha l'obiettivo di gettare nuova luce sui processi di sradicamento, integrazione e riconciliazione con il passato.
